Song of Christmas!

For many students, this past academic year has been a struggle. Constant issues with internet connection, uncertainty of what the next academic year will bring, and social distancing from both family and friends have made this time of year perhaps the most challenging yet. But there is a song being sung, a song of hope in Jesus to a melody that brings comfort and joy - “Te alabare (I praise you).” It was the song sung during the 2020 Riverside Tree Zoom Christmas party. All the students were excited to play games, share stories, and praise together- there was even a surprise message from one of their sponsors and a memorable rendition of Joy to the World and Feliz Navidad. The Riverside Tree students prayed for one another to receive encouragement and strength from God to complete their studies well and continue the work He started in them. In a time where hot cocoa and panettone are usually shared together, these things were not missed in the slightest. All that was needed was the love for one another in the presence of our great and loving Father God! In 2021, there will be a few more students that will join the Riverside Tree family, so if you are moved by Holy Spirit to help support one of these students, please contact the HHK WMC to see how you can start!

Be Blessed!

We greet you in the most wonderful and beautiful name of Jesus Christ. There was a great lesson and understanding gained through our experience during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. We have realized that we do not live by bread alone but by every word that comes out of the mouth of our God, as recorded in Deuteronomy 8 and Matthew 4. We do not live by our own strength and power but by God’s wonderful grace. News of many non-profit organizations, churches and mission centers reducing their work force due to serious financial trouble from the COVID-19 pandemic have reached our ears and our hearts are heavy and ache for them. We are only doing much better than we had expected or hoped for because of your faithful and passionate support even during these challenging times. Your unending love for those in need is a very powerful encouragement and comfort for all of us here at Hanhee Kim World Mission Center. We don’t have enough words to describe our gratitude for your kindness and generosity. We are praying ever so fervently that in 2021 “your herds and flocks will grow large, your silver and gold will increase, and all you have is multiplied” (Deuteronomy 8:13). Most of all, may you be filled with the Holy Spirit this year. Once again, we want to express our sincere thanks for your continuous support and our love for you.

To God be the Glory- from COJ ministry partners

In Mark 10:13-16, we see a sweet scene where Jesus blesses the children, showing his love towards them in a world where they were viewed as unimportant and a hindrance. Jesus publicly displays his love without discrimination. Today, we see the little ones vulnerable in their families and social environment. However, as they learn the Word of God they are strengthened. There’s no doubt that Jesus alone inspires our hearts to do good, and we can’t thank you enough, dear sponsors, for the love you show through prayers and offerings for your child in the Children of Jesus ministry. The blessings that our God prepares for them becomes a reality when they eat together after Sunday School, receive their gifts for school and Christmas, and when you come on mission trips to meet them. The time you spent with them lifts their spirits and leaves a lasting impact on their lives. May we continue to look at the children through the eyes of our Lord. We know and believe that God has been and will continue to be you and your family’s sustainer. Let us continue to follow in the steps of our Master by sharing his love with others. Current Situation

Throughout the month of November, we were able to check-in individually with our 23 COJ partner churches through Zoom meetings and encourage pastors to keep pressing onward, with the wisdom and strength God provides throughout the continuation of testing times. In addition, we were able to discover the reality churches and children faced. While there were some churches where COVID-19 had ravaged their communities, most churches in more remote areas were untouched by COVID-19. However, though not affected by the disease directly, churches and children have suffered from spiritual collateral damage. Pastors and Sunday School teachers have tried to stay connected with the children, but their efforts have been limited by government-enforced prohibition of group gatherings throughout most of this year. Also, the lack of appropriate resources for digital communication (eg. cell phone) – and much less virtual communication (eg. Internet) – has rendered children isolated, without adequate access to education and spiritual nourishment. At this time, some churches have recently started to gather, some in planning stages to start gathering in the new year, and yet still many are clouded by uncertainty. The government set forth new protocols for churches to be able to re-open and some face challenges to meet the requirements. Things are out of our control. We realize this yet again. We have to seek on our knees, now more than ever, the face and help of the only one who is in absolute control. We ask that you would join alongside us and pray for God to re-open the doors of houses of worship and for the children in Peru –that they would able to pursue their studies once again and that the love and passion for Him would be reignited in their hearts.

Better Tomorrow

This past summer, we couldn’t see the bright and beautiful stars of the Colorado night skies due to the heavy and thick smoke from the record-setting wild fires. In 2020, many of us could not see our beloved family members due to the COVID-19. But for many poor and neglected children in this world, they could not even see the hope of tomorrow due to the heavy burden of poverty. And yet, because of the sacrificial efforts of the firefighters, Colorado skies are twinkling again; because of the well-focused research of scientists, the world is preparing for a joyous reunion. And because of caring and loving sponsors, many poor children are envisioning a better and brighter future. Your love is bearing fruit! But we confess that above all else this is only possible by the grace of our almighty God. Whether it’s the wild fires, COVID-19, or seemingly unconquerable poverty, we are certain we will face a new day of victory and glory because our Lord Jesus came to this earth and died on the cross for us. As we send off 2020, a most unusual year, we have a big favor to ask of you. Would you please write a simple letter of encouragement to your sponsored child, student or pastor, using the letterhead we recently sent you? It would be such a great blessing and surprise for them. May our Lord bring you and your family a new day of victory and glory in 2021!

With the Heart of Jesus….

The coronavirus pandemic has changed the world we are living in. Many people in the impoverished regions of Peru are struggling to survive each day. And many lives are at great risk due to the lack of medical facilities and support. Our COJ pastors are not an exception. One pastor passed away from COVID-19 and many other pastors and their families suffered as the infection ran its course. They were without work to provide the food for their families and had to endure the pain of witnessing many of their church members struggle greatly. All they could do was to pray to our God. Then, our wonderful God answered their prayers through the sacrificial giving of the sponsors. Praise the Lord! Their obedience helped one pastor repair his collapsing house and another pastor to finally provide food for his own family; from the abundance given to him, he shared it to provide basic necessities for struggling families in his church. We are singing “Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee” as we witness the amazing grace of our Lord shown through sponsors with the mind and heart of the Christ during these difficult times. Hallelujah!

Recharged to Run Again!

Despite ABBA youth conferences getting cancelled this year due to COVID-19, through the leading of the Holy Spirit, we were able to plan and hold Zoom meetings with the youth leaders from 21 different regions of Peru throughout the last two weeks of October. It was a time to get to know our ABBA youth leaders on a more personal level and hear about their walk with the Lord this past year. What a blessed time it was! We were able to hear testimonies of God’s unending goodness through the hardships they had faced in the midst of the pandemic. Everyone was touched as we were once again reminded of Abba Father’s heart towards us– He desires us to sit in His presence daily talking with Him and meditating on His word so that we are equipped to fight and claim victory over the sin-virus we face each day. Many were recharged to once again fix their eyes on Christ and run the race set before them with new strength and perseverance. As we pray about next steps, please join us to seek God’s revelation and guidance to help youth leaders to be recharged by Holy Spirit, and recharge the peers they are leading to become mighty warriors in Christ together.

ZOOMing to Meet You!

What can be more encouraging and memorable than the moment a sponsor and their sponsored individual meet? For more than 25 years, the summer mission trips were an opportunity for participating missionaries to meet children or youth who they sponsored. Usually accompanied by tears of joy and loving words, these meetings were the fulfillment of countless letters where each side expressed the desire to meet in person. With the situation in 2020, the summer mission trip was canceled and the hopes of many sponsors eager to meet their sponsored child dashed. However, hope is never lost when God is working. A new opportunity presented itself as a means for sponsors to be able to meet their sponsored individual. The end of October marked the first time sponsors in the United States were able to video chat with their Riverside Tree students in Peru. Love was transmitted across a thousand miles as stories and prayers were shared and jokes were made during this priceless time. The first two Riverside Tree students who participated, Enoc and Job Abraham, were delighted to be able to meet their sponsors for the first time ever. They now wait in anticipation for the next time they will once again talk with their loving sponsors. These video meetings have started for Riverside Tree students and their sponsors, so if you are currently sponsoring a student in Riverside Tree, please look forward to being connected with your student soon!

Where Does My Help Come From?

UPDATE (11/10/2020): Last month, we shared a story about a family who faced the tragic loss of their beloved husband and father. Just a couple weeks later, we received love offerings from sponsors whose hearts were touched by God to respond to the need of this family – God is faithful! The mother, Sister Beatriz, was able to repay the loan that was taken out for her husband’s funeral expenses and bought some clothes and a chicken and two lambs for her children. By God’s grace, her health has also been recovering. The children dearly miss their earthly father, but we trust the faith they have that their Heavenly Father is always watching over them has grown through the expression and gift of love from their sponsors in Christ!

Celebrating 27 Years

God is good. What more can we say as we reflect back and track the 27 years God has been using Hanhee Kim World Mission Center (HHK WMC) to do His work in reaping the harvest throughout the world? It’s incredible how each ministry came to be over the years through the inspiration of Holy Spirit in His perfect timing, according to His perfect provisions. How could we have ever fathomed how wonderfully He would bring the different pieces together?
