Seeds in Good Soil

During our summer mission trip to Iquitos, Peru, our team visited several churches where we had the opportunity to worship, serve, and spend time with the next generation. However, during our final church visit in the region of Gallitos, our missionaries noticed something different. While the church was being faithfully led by Pastor Wilfredo, his wife Pastora Lucinda, and supported by several mothers, there were very few young leaders serving alongside them.

Yet during small-group time with the older children and youth, our missionaries discovered that the desire to serve was already there. Many shared that they wanted to grow deeper in their relationship with Christ and become more involved in their church. What they lacked was not a willing heart, but opportunities and resources to help them grow.

Because of Gallitos’ remote location, travel from the main city of Iquitos can be difficult, and receiving resources for discipleship and leadership development are limited. Many of the young people our team met did not even have Bibles of their own. When our missionaries returned to Denver and shared what they had learned, the HHK team began considering how we could continue walking alongside this church even after STMT had ended.

This fall, as jackets were prepared for our COJ churches as part of their biannual gift, HHK also prepared a special shipment of Bibles for Gallitos. A Bible may seem like a simple gift, but in good soil, even a small seed can bear lasting fruit. We pray these young people will grow in their knowledge and love of God’s Word, deepen their relationship with Christ, and discover how He is calling them to serve.

The next generation of leaders Gallitos needs may already be sitting in its Sunday School. Like the kernel of wheat that falls to the ground and bears much fruit, we pray that what is planted in these young hearts today will multiply for generations to come. Please pray with us that God will raise them up to faithfully serve their church, share the Gospel, and one day invest in the generation that follows them.
