ABBA Updates

Looking into the Future

When God called us to begin the ABBA youth ministry in Peru, He first showed us churches we were working with through the Children of Jesus ministry that were filled with children and yet had a nearly nonexistent presence of youth and young adults. As we prayed about why this was, God opened our eyes to see how they were getting lost in the world, falling into the temptation of easy money as they entered into adolescence through things like prostitution and drug dealing. Through this revelation, God showed us that He wanted to use us to share His heart, the heart of ABBA Father, with them – that nothing in the world could ever satisfy them like His love for them and that He had a great plan and purpose He wanted to fulfill in each and every one of their lives. So, we prayed and asked God, “How can the youth of Peru come to know your heart towards them, Father?” And as always, He answered. A couple of years following the start of ABBA ministry, Holy Spirit inspired us to develop a devotional that would help the next generation encounter the living God. The truth of who He is and what His heart contains, which would help them stand firm in the midst of the world’s never-ending attempts of allurement, could only be personally revealed to them as they spend time in His living Word. Thus, the name of the devotional came to be titled “Encuentro con Abba Padre-ECAP” or “Encounter with Abba Father”. The ABBA ECAP is an amalgamation of the time and effort of writers, editors, and designers from all across North and South America. The beautifully-made devotional book contains well-written and profound insights into the Word of God that fosters great spiritual growth in all of its readers. It is interlaced with monthly Bible reading schedules and special colored pages spread throughout that are dedicated towards the designated theme for each edition. In recent years, Holy Spirit has led us to focus on themes about standing firm on the truth: putting on the Armor of God and differentiating between the lies of this world and the truth found in God’s promises. For 2022, our prayer and aim is that they are reminded that despite the ways the world presents to finding fulfillment in this life, Jesus is the only way to true purpose in this life and in eternity. ECAP is a tool God has been using to help establish their identity in Him and come to know Him in an intimate and real way, so they become transformed into mighty men and women of God. But God is now pressing on our hearts that this is a need for not just the Peruvian youth, but the youth in our very own country. Though the temptations and struggles come in different forms, God’s heart towards the next generation remains the same. God is showing us that He desires to and has already started working in the next generation here in our own backyard. We are invited by Abba Father to join Him in His work to raise the next generation. Will you join us in crying-out for the next generation to become mighty men and women of God’s army who will expand His fire to all nations until He returns? Let’s look forward to a future where the next generation will go against all odds and stand firm in the truth.

In Good Time

How great is our God Almighty! The new “Encuentro con Abba Padre” (ECAP) devotional books are now published and have been shipped to the different regions of Peru! We are excited to introduce their new look. The devotionals will now have a theme, which will be reflected by the art on the cover and align with the content of the color pages inside. This year, God highlighted the importance of His armor; the devotional for the first semester covered the six pieces of armor and the need for them. The latest edition, “¡Armate y Pelea!” (Stand up and Fight!), is about using the armor to help fight against Satan’s lies. We pray the youth will be excited to receive the new ECAP. We pray they look forward to spending more intimate time with Abba Father and building a true and personal relationship with Him. May they become mighty warriors, equipped with the armor of God to stand and fight against Satan’s schemes and attacks. To God be the glory!

One Story

We all have a story. A story of how Jesus came, met us, and changed our lives. And each of our stories is unique and personal, but all share a common link – the grace of a Father in heaven who loves us beyond imagination. We are connected through our individual stories into God’s one great story. This includes all who are a part of Children of Jesus (COJ), Raven of Love (ROL), and ABBA ministries. We would like to highlight one of them this month–the testimony of Pastor Inocencio Aguirre Principe, now 70, who we came to know in 2004 through the COJ ministry. In 2008, he was one of the first pastors to be sponsored when the Raven of Love ministry began. All our stories are meant to be shared because we can bring honor to God, who is the author, and encourage one another as we are reminded of the heart of the one who pursues each of us with immeasurable passion. This is His story. I grew up in a large family, 1 of 8 children. My family was not Christian and there were many problems at home, including physical and psychological abuse. I felt broken and lonely, which led to anger. When my father told me he wasn’t going to support my secondary education, I ran away from home to the capital city of Peru – Lima – where I joined the army and became more lost. At age 29, the darkness and rage that had built up inside of me was directed towards society and mankind. I decided I would either become a terrorist and kill people without discrimination, lose myself in the jungle, or just buy a gun and kill everyone who made my life miserable and then end my own. Whatever it would be, my resolution was to do it by December of that year. November came and a big evangelical revival camp was held in the city I was in; the whole community was invited. As the meeting time drew near, an announcement was made through the megaphone: “Men, women, youth! If you are sick and can’t find healing, if you have problems and can’t find a solution, or if you believe your life is worthless, come tonight! Jesus is here to heal sickness, solve your problems, and give you an abundant life! Christ heals and saves!” I stood in the corner with my girlfriend at the time and listened to two people share testimonies of God’s miraculous work in their lives. I knew I needed God’s help, but a voice of doubt tried to hinder me from coming to Him. It is truly by God’s grace that a lady who was sitting close by led me by the arm to the front, where I kneeled down before the Lord. As the pastor prayed for me, I was filled with a fire. I was crying and sweating at the same time. In that moment, Jesus came into my life, forever to stay. My girlfriend, who is now my wife, also received Jesus and is my amazing helper in doing the Lord’s work. Fast forward 40 years. I am still serving the church God called me to pastor and there have been many tears, doubts, discouragements along the way. But in each moment, the Lord reassured me, telling me, “Do not fear, for I am with you.” My God lifted me out from the pits of despair and hopelessness and brought me into a life of purpose and hope. He has helped me fight the good fight and I know He will most certainly continue to do so until my very last day.

Hope that Endures

Rome wasn’t built in a day; it took inspiration, careful planning and strategy, revisions, carried out over the course of time. In the same way, building up mighty soldiers for God’s kingdom requires an intentional structure and process. The ABBA ministry serves to raise up a strong and powerful army of God from the next generation. We are in the midst of reorganizing our structure to more actively help and encourage approximately 11,000 Peruvian youth to deepen their personal relationships with the Lord. Holy Spirit convicted us to form a national task force, a team of 12 members, which will focus its efforts on training up all ABBA participant church pastors and leaders to train their youth on Bible meditation through the ECAP devotional and purposeful follow up on whether it is changing lives of youth to become true disciples of Jesus. Another focus will be on creating a prayer movement that will spread throughout churches across Peru, to cry out for the next generation. Please pray with us for God to bring alongside workers with the heart of the Father for the youth and who desire to take on this great task. The process will seem long and daunting at times, but we know in all things, God’s sovereign will is done. To God be the glory forever! Amen!

A Good God Who Answers Us

In our previous newsletter, we shared news about the many pastors who had been called home into the Father’s arms during this pandemic. We were saddened because we had prayed hard for them and felt our prayers went unheard or not answered in the ways we desired. However, regardless of how we feel, we know that God hears the prayers of His people and His answers are always good because He is always good. And we must not take it for granted when our heavenly Father does answer us in ways we desperately desired, but must share to testify of it so we bring Him the glory and praise He deserves! Our God is healer. Our God is provider. Our God has heard and answered our prayers. Thank you for continually praying alongside of us. So what do we do now? Keep praying! Without ceasing, in one mind, heart, and spirit, because we know God is a good Father who will continue to hear the cries of His children and answer us according to His good will! Hallelujah!

In Memory of: Oscar Alfredo Cabrera Caballero

Pastor Oscar Caballero was a mighty man of God who stood as an exemplar of a good and faithful servant to the next generation. His service to churches in Peru is immeasurable and inexpressible. We are profoundly grateful to God for the life and ministry of Pastor Oscar, who lived and died for the kingdom and glory of our God. He traveled all throughout Peru - from Piura to Arequipa and many cities and towns in between - to encourage and support many young people, leaders and pastors of Abba Peru! Now, he has transitioned from this earth to the glorious kingdom of God and is face-to-face with Jesus Christ, his Savior and ours. It is the meeting he has been looking forward to his whole life. Now, it is time for the next-generation mighty men and women of God to fill his shoes and take the gospel to the utmost parts of the world. One day we will all meet Pastor Oscar again in the presence of our awesome God because our Lord Jesus is resurrected from death and has given us eternal hope!

Into the Father’s Arms

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8 These pastors were called home after fighting against the coronavirus. We remember their faithful service in response to God’s calling during their time on this earth and passion to raise up a mighty next generation. Though our hearts break at the temporary separation, we rejoice in the belief that we will see each other once again in our Father’s glory. Please join us with your prayers as we continue to lift up their families, that Holy Spirit will comfort them with his perfect peace.

Recharged to Run Again!

Despite ABBA youth conferences getting cancelled this year due to COVID-19, through the leading of the Holy Spirit, we were able to plan and hold Zoom meetings with the youth leaders from 21 different regions of Peru throughout the last two weeks of October. It was a time to get to know our ABBA youth leaders on a more personal level and hear about their walk with the Lord this past year. What a blessed time it was! We were able to hear testimonies of God’s unending goodness through the hardships they had faced in the midst of the pandemic. Everyone was touched as we were once again reminded of Abba Father’s heart towards us– He desires us to sit in His presence daily talking with Him and meditating on His word so that we are equipped to fight and claim victory over the sin-virus we face each day. Many were recharged to once again fix their eyes on Christ and run the race set before them with new strength and perseverance. As we pray about next steps, please join us to seek God’s revelation and guidance to help youth leaders to be recharged by Holy Spirit, and recharge the peers they are leading to become mighty warriors in Christ together.

Celebrating 27 Years

God is good. What more can we say as we reflect back and track the 27 years God has been using Hanhee Kim World Mission Center (HHK WMC) to do His work in reaping the harvest throughout the world? It’s incredible how each ministry came to be over the years through the inspiration of Holy Spirit in His perfect timing, according to His perfect provisions. How could we have ever fathomed how wonderfully He would bring the different pieces together?

Good News in Hard Times

“Hello everyone, God bless you all. I ask that you support us in prayer as we go to evangelize in the rural areas [of Peru]. God bless you.” This was a message that was posted in the CEJA group chat by a young man named Elvis. He asked for prayers as a group of young adults from his local church gathered early one Saturday morning to prepare bags of basic necessities for people in a town called Las Laderas. They wanted to bring food and other supplies for those in great physical need, but more importantly, to bring the Good News of life and hope that would fill the greatest void in their lives. At the end of the day, Elvis shared with the rest of CEJA participants what God had done, of the souls that had been saved and added to the kingdom of God. He encouraged them to press on, continue to share the Good News, and see God show up and save the lost. The time is always now! CEJA (Centro de Entrenamiento Juvenil ABBA) - Abba Youth and Young People training Center is the place where next generation mighty men and women are being raised up through Hanhee Kim World Mission Center. Our God has called many young people to become the fishers of man. Praise the Lord!
