Fruits of Obedience

I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. -1 Corinthians 3:6 Now all of our COJ children have received the school supplies and have gone back to school in person! Thank you, dear sponsors, for your obedience to God’s command in giving life to the least of these. As you plant the seed in the hearts and lives of our COJ children, God will make it grow and bear much fruit. In fact, the fruits of your obedience is evident in the letters that the COJ children have written to their sponsors. Like this sponsor child, our prayer is that all of our COJ children will become leaders in their churches and communities for there is no greater blessing and reward than to witness the next generation rise up as a mighty army of God.

A Time for Everything

As King Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes Chapter 3, there is a season for everything. There’s a time to plant and a time to harvest. In the beginning of 2022, we welcomed 187 new children to the COJ ministry. Praise the Lord! Our COJ ministry is continually growing, and God’s kingdom is expanding on this earth. Our prayer is that all the children will grow in God’s wisdom, love, and stature and become mighty men and women of God. At the same time, we also recognized 59 graduates from the COJ ministry. Despite the many challenges of the pandemic, by God’s favor, they completed their secondary education. Just as plants need sunlight and water to grow, your humble obedience and generous giving to the Lord has borne many fruits as evidenced by these graduates. Now, as they go out to the world, let’s gather our hearts and pray that they will submit and commit to the Lord. Thank you, sponsors, for being the channels of God’s blessing to our COJ children and graduates! Above all, we thank and praise God for his provision and protection! To God be the glory!

Only by Agape Love!

In 2018 we held the very first Abba Ecuador Youth Conference in the city of Guayaquil. But the door to continue the ABBA ministry there was quickly closed. There were only a few churches that desired to continually receive the youth training. Then, the COVID pandemic closed the border between Ecuador and Peru, and we were no longer able to ship the training books there. We asked the Lord why the road was closed for Abba Ecuador. Lord spoke softly and gently to us, “How much do you really love the youth of Ecuador?” We realized that our heart was not in the right place with our God and we begun praying for Ecuador with renewed heart. All of a sudden, the doors to Ecuador reopened and the training for pastors and leaders was held in February 2022. We have been invited back to train more pastors and leaders in the coming days. On the morning of the first day of training, the President of Ecuador made a public announcement that the border between Ecuador and Peru was completely reopened on that morning. Can this be coincidence? We’ve learned the greatest lesson: God’s kingdom expands only through agape love, the unconditional and sacrificial love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our God will bring many youth of Ecuador into His kingdom! Thank you for your partnership to share this amazing love of our God to our next generation!

Jesus, Name Above all Names

Pastor Artemio is 68 years old, and he has been pastoring at Vida Eterna Church in Callao, Lima since 2005. He is compassionate and caring, and his desire is for the children to grow to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. He’s also a prayer warrior, and he has been a guest speaker for many ABBA youth rallies. But his passion and fire for the youth does not end there. He’s training a group of young people to become missionaries and evangelize to the neighboring communities in 2022. He frequently visits church families, prays with them, and stregnthens their faith in God. But time to time, adversity may overwhelm us. Towards the end of last year, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. In February he started taking medications, but he shared that he hasn’t seen any improvement. However, Pastor Artemio rests in the assurance of the living hope and fixes his eyes on the cross. Though doctors say that there’s no cure for Parkinson’s disease, his hope is not in the words of man but in the Word of the Lord Almighty. We ask you to support him with your prayers as he’s battling this disease. Let’s lift up Pastor Artemio and call upon the name of Jesus, the name above all names!

The Heart of the Father

There are times in our walk when we feel the Lord is taking us on a new path, but in a loving way, He is revealing new aspects of Himself by moving us in a different direction or even making us stay put. That is exactly what happened in the lives of the students in the Riverside Tree ministry through circumstances and their walk with the Lord. It was clear that He wanted to give them a clearer picture of who He was as a Father and to clear up any confusion they had about who God was. In January, three members of the Riverside Tree staff team gathered with four students in Lima for a long waited reunion, filled with delicious meal, fun games, and a time of fellowship with God and each other. During the time of sharing our own testimonies, we realized the heart of our Father. For some of us, God was the beacon of light in our times of lostness. For others, He was the doctor, the healer of our souls and bodies. For some, we were overwhelmed with God’s love and joyfully shed our tears. The common theme through each shared testimony was that God had reminded us of His love by changing life plans we set ourselves. You may remember that the theme verse for Riverside Tree is from Ezekiel 17:8. This theme is still the focus of this ministry, but through this gathering, God made it even more personal and clear to us. God had guided us individually to where we are now and through Him, had blessed us to bless many others. This great revelation is to be shared with others and to show others that they too can be joined together with God. As each student is about to start their new classes in March, God reminded us that their respective fields of study are not for a good job or paycheck and a comfortable life, but to be used to bear fruits for the gospel of Jesus Christ. Please join us to pray for these young people that one day they will become ambassadors for Christ in each of their future careers, their families, friends, and communities. That is the heart of our awesome Father!

Recovering the Lost

The past two years have been filled with more uncertainty and fear. It has made us reflect and test our faith. Some have stayed steadfast and others have fallen away from God’s heart. Yet He is the good shepherd who leaves the ninety nine to bring the one lost back. God has shown us His heart for all of our ministries in 2022 through the parables in Luke 15, which mentions the three lost things that were all found eventually with great rejoicing. Would you continually join us in this year’s endeavor to do just that, working together to recover the lost and helping them to return to the Father’s arms? God knows our exact situations and needs even before we realize it ourselves. Even in the shadow of the valley of death, He is with us. Pastor David Baquerizo from Puente Piedra is 67 years old and shared how grateful he is for the offering he receives through the Raven of Love ministry. It is by his sponsor’s joyous giving that he was able to prepare a food basket and visit a struggling family before Christmas last year. The family was going through a difficult time, their children were being rebellious and the couple was on the verge of divorce. This is Pastor David’s testimony: “I shared the gospel and upon listening to the message of salvation the Holy Spirit the hearts of the parents and children. Everyone forgave each other, and while they were hugging each other with renewed love, they received Jesus as their Savior. We were also able to bless them with a Christmas gift bag using the offering we received from our sponsor. If it wasn’t for the continual and loving support of our sponsor, who knows what might have happened to this family. But our God didn’t forget this one lost family. Our God is truly a giver of life. Praise the Lord!

Breathing into Life

“This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.” Ezekiel 37:5 When Abel was young, he had severe asthma. During the day, he could not participate in many activities with other children and there were even nights where he could not sleep. He recalls his parents praying fervently for him all the time. His mom especially would be praying for hours on her knees with tears running down her face for Abel’s health. Abel does not remember exactly when it happened, but in a sudden moment God had healed him of his asthma; it was then that he recognized the power of God and accepted Him. At age 9, Abel experienced God as he started playing drums and guitar. He would later play for the church praise team, which brought him closer to God. Since then, Abel has been serving in his church faithfully. And he now serves as a part of the AV team, Sunday school teacher, and a special event coordinator for his church. These areas of service led Abel to pursue a degree in audio/visual communications, a rare degree in Peru. His dream is to be able to produce visual and audio productions to help present the gospel to non-believers so they can come to know God and to further help out in his church. He owes his very life to the wonder-working power of God and His goodness. Now, Abel has graduated from high school and is about to start his college journey. And he has been accepted into the Riverside Tree program. He is one step closer to where he knows God is leading him to be. Will you pray about and consider giving Abel words of encouragement and love as a sponsor and support him with $100/month for his tuition as he starts college in March?

Gifts of Love

Back to school! After two years of virtual classes during the pandemic, kids are finally heading back to school… in person! Most are overjoyed and have long awaited for this moment. So for Christmas, through the loving donations of sponsors, we sent the COJ children and youth backpacks to carry their books and school supplies when they head back to school in March. In addition, we also sent each COJ child’s family a special Christmas food basket. A little different than previous food baskets, this time around we included panettone, a popular dessert widely enjoyed by Peruvians during the Christmas season, along with hot chocolate. Our hope and desire is that each child realizes the love of the Father through the generous gifts of their sponsors and that they have already received the greatest gift of Jesus Christ!

Looking into the Future

When God called us to begin the ABBA youth ministry in Peru, He first showed us churches we were working with through the Children of Jesus ministry that were filled with children and yet had a nearly nonexistent presence of youth and young adults. As we prayed about why this was, God opened our eyes to see how they were getting lost in the world, falling into the temptation of easy money as they entered into adolescence through things like prostitution and drug dealing. Through this revelation, God showed us that He wanted to use us to share His heart, the heart of ABBA Father, with them – that nothing in the world could ever satisfy them like His love for them and that He had a great plan and purpose He wanted to fulfill in each and every one of their lives. So, we prayed and asked God, “How can the youth of Peru come to know your heart towards them, Father?” And as always, He answered. A couple of years following the start of ABBA ministry, Holy Spirit inspired us to develop a devotional that would help the next generation encounter the living God. The truth of who He is and what His heart contains, which would help them stand firm in the midst of the world’s never-ending attempts of allurement, could only be personally revealed to them as they spend time in His living Word. Thus, the name of the devotional came to be titled “Encuentro con Abba Padre-ECAP” or “Encounter with Abba Father”. The ABBA ECAP is an amalgamation of the time and effort of writers, editors, and designers from all across North and South America. The beautifully-made devotional book contains well-written and profound insights into the Word of God that fosters great spiritual growth in all of its readers. It is interlaced with monthly Bible reading schedules and special colored pages spread throughout that are dedicated towards the designated theme for each edition. In recent years, Holy Spirit has led us to focus on themes about standing firm on the truth: putting on the Armor of God and differentiating between the lies of this world and the truth found in God’s promises. For 2022, our prayer and aim is that they are reminded that despite the ways the world presents to finding fulfillment in this life, Jesus is the only way to true purpose in this life and in eternity. ECAP is a tool God has been using to help establish their identity in Him and come to know Him in an intimate and real way, so they become transformed into mighty men and women of God. But God is now pressing on our hearts that this is a need for not just the Peruvian youth, but the youth in our very own country. Though the temptations and struggles come in different forms, God’s heart towards the next generation remains the same. God is showing us that He desires to and has already started working in the next generation here in our own backyard. We are invited by Abba Father to join Him in His work to raise the next generation. Will you join us in crying-out for the next generation to become mighty men and women of God’s army who will expand His fire to all nations until He returns? Let’s look forward to a future where the next generation will go against all odds and stand firm in the truth.
