“Serving 5,000 Peruvian Teenagers with Faith and Obedience!”
ABBA PERU 2010 took place in Lima, Peru from August 3-6, 2010.
This youth conference, sponsored by HanHee Kim World Mission Center, (Denver, CO-President James Lee) was one of the largest youth rallies in the history of Peru. Not only did the conference bring in the youth from the Lima region, it welcomed hundreds of teenagers from the jungles of northern Peru, Cusco, Arequipa, and Wanka Wanka. Some participants arrived at the conference after 30 hours of long bus rides, making the ABBA PERU 2010 conference even more meaningful.
HHK WMC has done missions work in Peru for many years and has also sent mission teams to various parts of Peru every year. However, they faced new trials and difficulties, planning this special youth conference. HHK WMC was able to press on and overcome new obstacles through prayer. Rev. James Lee explained, “The biggest problem was finding the conference location. Along with that problem came other issues such as providing meals and the means of transportation for 6,000 people. Finding the speakers for the conference was not easy either. But we were able to overcome through the help of our God the Father, who solved each of our problems one by one in miraculous ways.”
The final location set for the conference was Peru’s military facility that was restricted to civilians. This facility was being used as training ground for Peru military’s armor unit. However, one of the generals at the base heard about the upcoming youth conference and after holding meetings with top lieutenants, he gave the ABBA PERU mission team the permission to use the base for the upcoming conference—first time ever for any
civilians to enter into this military ground. In reality, finding a location to feed and sleep 6,000 people in a poor country like Peru was an impossible task. But by God’s help, food and lodging for 6,000 individuals (5,000 Peruvian youth, 120 missionaries from 7 different states of the United States, pastors currently serving in Peru, and volunteers) was solved. Also, a massive outdoor tent was erected to house all conference activities for 5 days and 4 nights. All of these were not done by the might of man but by the power of God, marking the 5 days and 4 nights of the ABBA PERU conference a remarkable chapter in Peru’s history, and as well as in the history of God’s glory.
